BEAR CREEK AQUATIC CAMP

Camp Site
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp is located on scenic Kentucky Lake, 45 minutes south of Paducah, KY. Our camp is just a boat ride away from Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, a popular destination for our adventure trips, overnights, backpacking and horseback riding programs.

Bear Creek features 200 acres of waterfront property and 2 miles of shoreline, creating the perfect setting for Kentucky’s only Girl Scout aquatic camp. Bear Creek’s bay has a large boating area that is ideal for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing. There is also a roped-off swimming area with a fun water slide and a great beach for building sand castles or burying camp counselors!

The property also includes a large meadow for games or a giant slip & slide, central shower house with private stalls and a newly renovated lodge which houses the dining hall, kitchen and health center.

Campers
Bear Creek campers are girls entering grades four through twelve. Many of our campers return for several summers, but first-timers have just as much fun. Campers that register for the same program live together in units of cabins or platform tents. These units spend the week learning and growing together, creating lifelong friendships among the girls.

Traditions

Opening and closing campfires - The first and last night of every session are makred by campfires at Inspiration Point. attended by the whole camp. Units presents skits, songs, and sometimes lead special ceremonies.

Meals - Before the meal, a unit will “hop” the tables.  “Hoppers” are responsible for setting the tables and retrieving food from the kitchen. After the meal has been finished, campers, with the assistance of staff, wash their own dishes in “beaver buckets” before we put them in the sanitizer.

Singing- One thing that anyone who comes to Bear Creek Aquatic Camp learns very quickly is that we love to sing!  We traditionally sing before and after every meal, and at campfires.  But that doesn’t mean you won’t hear a melody coming from a unit hiking down a trail or a group of girls swimming in the lake!

Theme Meals-  Throughout the week during breakfast lunch and dinner Camp Pennyroyal campers and staff participate in theme meals.  Sometime this involves dressing up and sometimes it involves certain challenges that must be carried out during the meal!

Aqua Woman In addition to any work that’s done toward badges or interest projects, many campers spend their session working toward becoming an Aqua Woman orSuper Aqua Woman.Campers must complete a variety of swimming and other aquatic challenges to earn these high distinctions.

Water Water - Everyday campers get to enjoy two hour at our waterfront, either at boating or swimming. Girl get to pick different boat they would like to try or swim for the two hours.
