BEAR CREEK AQUATIC CAMP

Camp Siteflyingscot 1
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp is located on scenic Kentucky Lake, 45 minutes south of Paducah, KY. Our camp is just a boat ride away from Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, a popular destination for our adventure trips, overnights, backpacking and horseback riding programs.

Bear Creek features 200 acres of waterfront property and 2 miles of shoreline, creating the perfect setting for Kentucky’s only Girl Scout aquatic camp. Bear Creek’s bay has a large boating area that is ideal for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing. There is also a roped-off swimming area with a fun water slide and a great beach for building sand castles or burying camp counselors!

The property also includes a large meadow for games or a giant slip & slide, central shower house with private stalls and a newly renovated lodge which houses the dining hall, kitchen and health center.

Campers
Bear Creek campers are girls entering grades four through twelve. Many of our campers return for several summers, but first-timers have just as much fun. tentcampersCampers that register for the same program live together in units of cabins or platform tents. These units spend the week learning and growing together, creating lifelong friendships among the girls.

Traditions
Opening and Closing Campfires The first and last nights of every session are marked by campfires at Inspiration Point, attended by the whole camp. Units present skits, songs, and sometimes lead special ceremonies. campfire

Meals Meals at Girl Scout camp follow special traditions. Before the meal, a unit will “hop” the tables, setting out all the plates, silverware, napkins, and cold food. During the meal, the “hoppers” bring the hot foods out to their tables.dinner After the meal has been finished, we wash our own dishes in “beaver buckets” before we put them in the sanitizer. The best part is that while we wash dishes, we sing songs. (You might even want to bring a notebook, so that you can write down the words to some new songs.)

Aqua Woman In addition to any work that’s done toward badges or interest projects, many campers spend their session working toward becoming an Aqua Woman orSuper Aqua Woman.Campers must complete a variety of swimming and other aquatic challenges to earn these high distinctions.

All Camps At least once a session, the whole camp participates in an “all camp” game. Some of our favorite games are Peter Pan, Wolves, and Counselor Hunt.
